The NEFGA has a "contest" at each meeting called a bowl show where club members that are IFGA judges judge the fish and exhibitors learn what makes a winner a winner and a loser a loser. Not all members bring fish but those that do have a chance to win the year end point total and have their name engraved on a plaque beside the name of previous annual winners. The annual winner gets the plaque to take home for that year (aka the Stanley Cup). There is an "open" class and a "novice" class. Any annual total point winner of the novice class becomes ineligible for future novice class entries. From then on they are only eligable to show in the "open" class. The top 4 fish in each category (open male, novice male, open female, novice female) receive 10, 8, 6, and 4 points respectively. For monthly and yearly totals, male and female points are combined for each exhibitor. An annual season runs from October to Sept.

Note: As of the October 2009 meeting it was voted that only 2 males and 2 females per member can be entered in each bowl show. We hope that this encourages other members to compete and bring fish each month.
